Malar Vanam
This
home exclusively takes care of male dying destitutes and people who suffer
from AIDS. Most of them are
rescued from the streets and given basic care and facilities along with
medical attention.
Main
emphasis is provided for palliative care.The HIV+ victims under this shelter are given treatment, and also counseling to
enable them face their end with courage. These persons are also involved in the
Tailoring and Candle making Units.
Most of the AIDS patients are on treatment from different
specialities, but our compassion and care make lot of difference.

Raju was a truck driver who was deserted by his family after he was
afflicted with HIV infection. He
is awaiting death near the corridors regretting for his past
mistakes. |

Kumar also suffers from AIDS but
he wanted to put an end to his life. But he was rescued and dumped in
a hospital under 60% burns. He
is not alive today but his last days were peaceful as he was on
treatment and our care. |

James, chronic alcoholic was rescued from the street and was
provided with psychiatric treatment and counseling.
Presently he lives with his family and also works as a cook
to support his family. He is an active member of A.A. Group.

Both
of them were picked up unconscious from the streets garbage dump.
They were destitutes, no names and the background details
were not known. They
lived for a couple of days and they passed away as their illness was
unknown, even before the clinical investigations was done, they
passed away, whose life is it anyway!

are 200 residents at MALARVANAM.
