Treatment & Aftercare facility for Mentally sick women

This is one of our largest units of Udavum Karangal and known as "Abode of Peace" situated in serene and pleasant environment 20 kms away from the city of Chennai.

women patients who are orphans, destitutes and with no family support whatsoever, found wandering on the streets of Tamilnadu are being rescued and taken up for further management and rehabilitation.

Most of these women have been found to have undergone sexual abuse and invariably suffer from sexually transmitted diseases, Aids & TB. Some of them are found pregnant All of them are subjected to thorough medical investigation.

Shantivanam as on date takes care of more than 500 such destitute women who need life long treatment.patients

These mentally ill patients are provided with treatment, care and rehabilitation. Some of them have been chained all their life.., ignored, neglected & ill-treated, because their families either fear social stigma, or, are just plain ignorant. Around 25 mentally ill male patients in Mayileripalayam, Coimbatore.

	Parvatham was found wandering on the streets of Villupuram well wishers informed us that she has been sexually abused resulting in her pregnancy. After terminating her pregnancy enough psychiatric treatment was given to her she is normal now and one of the good helpers is this shelter.	B

	Madhubala was found almost nude and was an object of ridicule. She was picked up from Salem and she now leads an independent life without any problem.

	Asha was pelted with stones when she was running in the street. She almost lost her eye and was given treatment and psychiatric counseling she is leading a normal life with all human dignity.

	Thalam a victim of gang rape and sexual abuse for many months she was thin and frail looking when we rescued her. she has been rehabilitated.

	Susheela was found as a dying destitute with a hand eaten away by bandicoots. It was the timely intervention that saved her hand now she is happily doing the routine works at our centre.
